Two months ago, Minott had canceled performances in Canada after suffering chest pains.

Born in Kingston in May 1956, the singer, whose real name was Lincoln Barrington Minott, launched his musical career as a youngster in the late 1960s as a member of the African Brothers reggae trio.

He started a successful solo career in the 1970s, gaining a following in Jamaica’s dancehalls with songs like “Vanity” and “Mr. DC” while recording for the famed Studio One, the Caribbean island’s first black-owned music studio.

In 1981, he had his biggest hit with a cover of the Jackson Five’s “Good Thing Going,” which reached No. 4 in the United Kingdom’s singles chart in March of that year.

Minott was known for nurturing young talent with his own Black Roots record label and Youthman Promotion company. Reggae and dancehall artists such as Junior Reid and Tenor Saw began their careers under his tutelage.

“Sugar Minott was a man who gave a lot of strength to the music although he got no love from the business,” Reid said.

A new Album from Minott, “New Day,” is scheduled to be released in coming weeks.

BRF is always struggling to understand each other’s cultural and musical differences and through such activities they artistically create “common vibes” that everyone can feel. The good vibes they create are so universal that it knows no race, age, or gender. BRF is a reminder to the world that we are just one big family.

New Kingston is a young vocalist/instrumentalist group, that consists of three brothers. Tahir a.k.a. SLIM, the youngest member on Keyboards/Vocals. Courtney on Drums/Vocals and Stephen a.k.a SUKI, the oldest on Guitar/Vocals. This group fuses their Reggae sound with modern Pop, Jazz and R&B music. To create their sound, which they term, “Reggae Crossover”. This group has been in the Reggae industry for some time now and some might call them, “young veterans”! The group is led by the founder/manager/father Courtney LJ Panton. He started the Kingston Crew in the early 90′s, backing such artists as, Shaggy, Shabba Ranks, Maxi Priest and many other artists in the business. But with his offspring he formed an army, a force, an entity, New Kingston! Like Kingston Crew, New Kingston started off working with many artists as well. Such as, Collie Buddz, Mr.Vegas, Morgan Heritage, Sister Carol, Shabba Ranks, and many more. But, while working with all of these artists, manager Courtney LJ Panton had another vision. He had an ulterior motive for New Kingston, which was for them to rise to the top as a solo act and stand alone, capturing the love of the people. Thus fore they created their sound, dubbed, “Reggae Crossover”. A blend of sounds, to everyones liking, while still sticking to their heritage. Reggae! Now this group is sharing the stage with many artists around the world. From Europe, to the Americas and beyond. New Kingston is currently at work on their second album, “In The Streets”. The album features two of their singles that are gaining radio recognition globally. “In The Streets”, the title track of the album and “Pon Di Wall”, which is on the Ting-ah-Ling riddim. New Kingston! Part of reggaes long history and future.

The casting will take place on March 30th and 31st (Tuesday and Wednesday), 12:00pm-3:00pm at the VP Records Warehouse @89-05 138th Street, Jamaica, Queens.
